[edit] Abstract
This presentation examines the various social functions of mobile social networks in public spaces. Based on a two-year study of three mobile social networks, I also identify several key characteristics of users of mobile social networks and describe how they perform their identity using the technology.
I explore how people use mobile social networks to coordinate and collectively move about through public space. I discuss social mapping and the collective experience of space. Finally, I explore how users co-opted the technology for their own purposes.
